چکیده

An input and output queueing ATM switch model with a backpressure (BP) mode and a queue loss (QL) mode to decrease the system delay and the cell loss probability under nonuniform traffic is proposed. In the proposed model, the QL mode is adopted if the size of the backpressure exceeds the threshold. We consider a synchronous system with Bernoulli arrivals under hot-spot traffic that consists of a single output port of higher access rate superimposed on a background uniform traffic. The system delay and cell loss probability are analyzed under hot-spot traffic. It is shown that the proposed model is useful for nonuniform traffic. We also evaluate the effects of the threshold of the backpressure size for adopting the QL mode on the performance, and consider the optimum value of the threshold. ã 1998 Scripta Technica, Electron Comm Jpn Pt. 1, 81(11): 14–23, 1998

Performance Analysis of ATM Replicated Banyan Networks with External Input-Output Queueing

This paper develops an improved analysis of ATM switching architectures adopting a replicated banyan interconnection network provided with dedicated input and output queues, one per switch inlet and outlet. Two different plane selection policies are studied, random choice and alternate sharing, and two different operation modes are considered for the interaction between input and output queues,...

Approximate Analysis of a Shared-Medium ATM Switch Under Bursty Arrivals and Nonuniform Destinations

In this paper, we present an approximate analysis of a generic shared-medium A TM switch with input and output queueing. Input traffic is assumed to be bursty and is modelled by an Interrupted Bernoulli Process (IBP). Three different bus service policies are analyzed: Time Division Multiplexing (TDA1), Cyclic, and Random. The output links may have constant or geometric service time. The analysi...

Design, Analysis of an ATM Switch With Priority Discarding Scheme

In this paper, we propose an N × N high speed and non-blocking asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switch with input and output buffers. In this switch, each buffer adopts a priority discarding scheme, which discards incoming cells of low-priority traffic when its queue length is greater than a predefined threshold value. Our switch also supports broadcast/multicast functions without increasing th...

Performance Analysis of a Hybrid Priority Control Scheme for Input and Output Queueing ATM Switches

In this paper, we consider a nonblocking ATM switch with capacity C which adopts a hybrid priority control scheme in input buffers. Each input queue has two separate buffer spaces with different sizes for two classes of traffics, and adopts a general state-dependent scheduling scheme which assigns priorities to each class dynamically. We obtain the distribution of input queue length, loss proba...

Analysis of packet switches with input and output queuing

For advanced packet switches, output queueing has received increased attention owing to its performance advantages. However, practical output queue size limitations may require additional queueing at the inputs. This paper considers a single-stage nonblocking N x N packet switch with both output and input queueing. The limited queueing at the output ports resolves output port contention partial...
